The Shadow Job
AI fatigue is what happens when every role adds a shadow job: managing the machine.
AI fatigue is the feeling that a 10-minute task now comes with 15 minutes of setup, review, and second-guessing. In other words, output got cheap, but judgment didn't.
The task still exists. The new work piles on top of it. Pick the tool. Pick the model. Frame the prompt. Review 5 versions. Fact-check the confident wrong line. Rewrite the tone. Check the policy. Explain why you used AI. Explain why you didn't. Many people now spend the day cueing, trimming, and mixing generated work. That's a real skill. It also leaves the mind stuck in review mode.
Drowning In Drafts
Software. The developer supervises 5-10 agents, reviews dozens of pull requests that arrive fully formed, and still owns the outage if the abstraction leaks. The keyboard gets quieter. The review queue gets louder.
Design. The blank page got cheaper. Taste got more expensive. A model can hand you 40 directions by 10 a.m. Someone still has to know which 39 are decorative noise.
Marketing. Drafts breed in the dark. Email copy, ad hooks, blog outlines, webinar titles, landing page variants. The job becomes drainage. Plenty shows up. Very little deserves shipment.
Education. The student can produce clean prose in 30 seconds. The teacher now grades for thought, not surface polish. School starts to feel like forensics.
Law. Drafting speeds up. Verification gets heavier. One invented citation can erase the time you thought you saved.
Healthcare. The note gets summarized, the inbox gets triaged, the coding suggestion appears on cue. The clinician still carries the risk. A missed detail still lands on a human desk.
Sales. Every vendor sells an agent. Half the demos feel like autocomplete wearing a blazer. Teams burn afternoons evaluating tools that promise to save afternoons.
Finance. The analyst can generate 12 market notes before lunch. The real work still sits in the assumptions, the edge cases, and the line where confidence drifts away from evidence.
Media. Content now falls from the ceiling. Readers don't need more words. They need fewer, better ones. In a world flooded with draftsmanship, taste starts doing the filtering.
Founders. A weekend can buy a prototype, 4 landing pages, 3 ad sets, and a mild identity crisis. Speed helps. Noise ships just as fast.
Consumers. Every app adds the sparkle button. Summarize this. Rewrite that. Turn this photo into a toy. Most people want software that removes a chore and disappears.
Tired of the Machine

People will keep using AI because the tools are genuinely useful. The products that last will give people their attention back.
